Mankiewicz, an award-winning television and film director, died on Aug 14, 1993, of a rare form of cancer. He first achieved success in 1972 with his film 'Hunting Season,' and his 1980 film 'Good Riddance' is considered a masterpiece. He is also known for his television dramas.
