Robots in the 21st century are nowhere near as advanced as predicted 50 eyars ago, and scientists such as Dr Graham Mann and Professor Ray Jarvis believe that the lag is due to problems with reliability, safety, and complexity. Mann suggests that, because humanoid robots are so complex, perhaps scientists should look to other species, such as insects, for inspiration.

Jonathan Usher, who runs Microsoft's Digital Media Division, believes that digital movies, as DVDs or in downloadable format, will go mainstream in 2001. The company is currently building creating its next-generation operating system, which will have digital rights management built into it.
