Article Abstract:

Australia's 3 main tobacco companies will be defending themselves in a class-action lawsuit to be launched in Mar, 1999, which, if successful, could cost them over a billion dollars in damages. The court alleges that WD&HO Wills, Rothmans and Phillip Morris breached their common law duties to produce safe products, and failed to warn buyers of dangers associated with their products.

Australia's rate of organ donation is among the lowest in the world, and its laws prohibit contact between organ recipients and their donors. People who have recently lost family members in accidents are still in shock when the organs of the deceased must be harvested for donation. Allowing contact between donor families and recipients may increase organ donations.
