Strong arm tactics
Article Abstract:
James Strong, chief executive of Qantas Airways, has received some criticism for cutting costs and reorganizing management at the company since his appointment in 1994. Qantas reported record profits in 1998 but higher costs and competition from Asian airlines are expected to hurt the airline in 1999. Business people favor Qantas for its outstanding safety record, and the airline expects to benefit from the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
