Education: The Rise of Jewish Schools
Article Abstract:
The number of full-time Jewish schools has more than tripled since 1960. There are about 200,000 such schools when were once scorned as self-segregating. There are about one million Jewish school-age children of which about 65% are enrolled in public schools. New Jewish high schools offer unique and non-tradition Jewish aspects.

There is debate about whether school vouchers that allow students to attend private schools are good or bad. Some claim that school vouchers is the only way to educate urban, poor children. Others maintain that vouchers will mean the abandonment of public schools. In 1999, only two cities offer publicly funded vouchers.
