The family of Pam and Rikk Larsen is made up of 10 children, four of which are theirs by birth, the other six by adoption. The six adopted children were born in countries whose unstable political situations put them at risk and led to their eventual adoptions by the Larsens.

Lawrence is a blunt and outspoken Ferndale, CA, disc jockey whose vocal cords and larynx have been removed due to cancer. Lawrence believes his cancer resulted from his exposure to Agent Orange during the Vietnam war. He uses a voice synthesizer to communicate.

Adler became an attorney at age 55 and began working in a legal services office. She went unnoticed until she began crusading for rights for the poor. Adler was selected as the Outstanding Young Lawyer for the New York State Bar Assn in 1992 at age 63.
