GAY BISHOP WINS IN EPISCOPAL VOTE; SPLIT THREATENED

V. Gene Robinson, the well-respected?New Hampshire Episcopal minister, survived a last-minute accusation of inappropriate behavior towards a church member and became the Church's first openly gay bishop. Although 62 of 107 diocesan bishops elected him,? 12 conservative bishops predicted his selection would divide the Episcopal Church permanently between supporters and opponents. Robinson also survived?accusations that he had? involvement in Web sites for gay youth and pornography.
