SBC scales back plans for local telephone service
Article Abstract:
SBC Communications Inc has decided to reduce the coverage of its expansion plan due to a slowdown in the US economy and its failure to acquire federal approval to offer long-distance throughout its territory. The expansion plan was supposedly geared towards offering local telephone service outside its 13-state region. However, the company still intends to accept new customers for its voice service, not for long distance or Internet.
