Japan speeds ahead

Article Abstract:

Japanese car manufacturers now lead the industry which was once held by the three largest car manufacturers in Detroit. American consumers preferred Japanese automobiles because they offered a lot more for a lot less. The efficiency and cost effectiveness of Japanese cars made them an instant success with American consumers. Another reason behind the Japanese success is the production technique which they utilize. Called lean production, the Japanese were able to maximize production with far less resources. American manufacturers have been slow to emulate the techniques of the Japanese, hence, the low tun out in American car sales.

Japan feels the pinch

Article Abstract:

Japanese car manufacturers are finally experiencing their first setbacks since dominating the US auto industry. A multitude of problems both in Japan and abroad have helped contribute to the situation. One cause for this decline is the shift in automobile tastes of the US consumer. Japanese manufacturers were unable to keep up with consumer demands for different types of vehicles. Economic problems in Japan have also posed a problem for manufacturers.
