Journalism Under Fire
Article Abstract:
American journalism faces significant changes. Use of the Internet, reliance on news sources rather than reporters' activity, and emphasis on violence and sensationalism has challenged journalists to redefine the shape of their profession. Younger readers appreciate the shift from newsprint to cyberspace, while long-time journalists are concerned about oversight groups and lessened emphasis on news coverage. Treating news media as largely a business enterprise could endanger First Amendment protections.

School Vouchers
Article Abstract:
Florida in Apr 1999 is set to implement the nation's first statewide tuition voucher program. It would give students who attend failing public schools state-funded "opportunity scholarships," which they could use to attend public or religious school of their choice. The Supreme Court refused to hear a case from Milwaukee, which leaves the constitutionality of such a program unclear.
