Just 8 of 12 contracts garner bids in Alberta power auction
Article Abstract:
The first round of bidding in Alberta's power auction ended with offers for only eight of the 12 electricity contracts. The auction is a key step in the move toward deregulation of the provincial electricity industry. Of the 12 contracts, which give buyers the right to market and sell the power generated by the 10 coal and gas-fired plants in the province, only two have received multiple bids. Another six contracts have received a bid at the minimum price, while four more have yet to receive offers. At the end of the first round of bidding, proceeds stand at minus $235-million. Four power plants have received positive bids of $182-million in total, and three power plants stand at prices totaling minus $417-million. One contract has received the bid for nil, implying that the buyer receives the contract for nothing. Seven bidders, including Enmax Energy Corp. (Calgary) and Epcor Utilities Inc. (Edmonton), registered for Alberta's power auction. They have collected $230-million for the right to participate in the auction. However, no company can get more than 20% of Alberta's power generation capacity.

Intertoob launches interactive live Net shows
Article Abstract:
Intertoob.com will run TV-style programming 24 hours a day, spiced with audience polling, chat functions and a chance to interact with producers to determine future programming. It features real shows with central characters and evolving plot lines. And the level of audience interaction is unprecedented: viewers can decide the fate of characters or interact with the producers in twice-a-day "bored meetings" where ideas for programming are fielded from the audience. Other shows scheduled in the 24-hour lineup include comedies that the Intertoob team has renamed sit.coms and titled colorfully.
