Australian rugby players and executives have caused scandals with drunken and violent behavior. Jeff Bond, of the Australian Institute of Sport, blames the behavioral subculture of the sport that includes players, coaches and fans. Alcohol interferes with muscle recuperation, but some rugby clubs allow drinking in the locker room after a game.
