Should the government crack down on lending discrimination?
Article Abstract:
The study released by the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston in Oct 1992 established that there was racial discrimination in the mortgage lending industry. Only effective government interference and a committee of committed regulators can lead to real change. On the other hand, the data that has been interpreted as discrimination can also be seen as evidence of disparate impact. Critics of the Boston Fed study stress that factors other than can race could have impacted the decision against minorities. A government crackdown can lead to bad loans being approved and this would lead to increased foreclosures in inner cities.

Should certain therapies be curtailed in the effort to crack down on nursing home fraud?
Article Abstract:
Fraud and abuse occur in the nursing home industry. A hearing into this situation was held by the House Government Reform and Oversight Subcommittee on Human Resources, April 16, 1997. Some proposed that certain therapies be curtailed in the effort to crack down on fraud. There is an explosion of nursing home-based contract speech and rehabilitative therapy service, sometime to those who cannot benefit medically. Managed care and drug diversion are other areas for abuse. Only lawyers and accountants can love the existing statutory and regulatory framework according to others.

Should the United States crack down on companies doing business with overseas sweatshops?
Article Abstract:
Some people think the United States should crack down on countries doing business with overseas sweatshops because the growth of offshore sweatshops scales back the number of apparel jobs in the US. About 99,000 such jobs were lost in 1995 because manufacturers could not pay the same wages paid to workers in Third World countries. Other people think that well-meaning labor union and human rights activists, by discouraging foreign investment, are hurting the foreign worker who considers any job better than no job.
