Should the United States curtail immigration?
Article Abstract:
There is a growing debate over curtailing immigration in the US as the world population grows and immigrants are coming into the country in record numbers. Those who wish to curb immigration claim that natural resources, such as soil and water, are being over-taxed. They want something done about immigration now, before the standard of living for all Americans reaches a lowest common denominator based on lack of resources. Others claim that immigration was the basis for the population that now inhabits the country and so to bar future immigrants would be unfair. Immigrants bring with them new ideas and cultural perspectives, and any loss of natural resources will be off-set by the discovery of new resources.

Should the United States adopt English as its "official" language?
Article Abstract:
A surge in immigration into the US has sparked debate over adopting English as the nation's official language. Some claim that immigrants who do not learn English eventually become part of a permanent economic and social underclass, easily taken advantage of by political opportunists. Others claim that making English the official language would further marginalize non-English speakers. They believe attempts to force a language on people stems from ethnocentrism, and point out that the US has never been an all-English country.
