Article Abstract:
Astronomers Paul Butler and Geoffrey Marcy announced at the Jan 1996 meeting of the American Astronomical Society that they have found evidence of two planets that may have conditions necessary to support life. One planet is orbiting the star 70 Virginis. The other is orbiting 47 Ursae Majoris.

Article Abstract:
Budget constraints have caused NASA to change its plans for space exploration. Future research on extraterrestrial life will focus on accessible targets. New technologies will make cheap space missions possible. Separating long-term and short-term astronautic goals is essential.
