Texas cattle quarantined during mad cow feed test
Article Abstract:
A herd of Texas cattle has been quarantined by the FDA after eating feed prohibited under regulations designed to prevent the spread of mad cow disease in the US. FDA spokesman Lawrence Bachorik said the agency resorted to the measure after it suspected that bone meal derived from US cattle may been mixed with a feed supplement and fed to cattle. Bachorik added that the cattle herd is being kept in isolation until they are certified to be fit for human consumption. Mad cow disease has previously raged in Europe but has not been found in the US.
