Canadian seasonal workers in several towns across Atlantic Canada demonstrated to protest proposed unemployment insurance reforms. The reforms will reduce the number of weeks that seasonal employees can receive benefits while raising the number of weeks one must work to qualify for the benefits.

Sweet victory

Liberal Brian Tobin won a sweeping victory in the Feb 1996 general election in Newfoundland. The Liberals captured all but 11 seats in Newfoundland's 48-seat legislature, and they even unseated Progressive Conservative party leader Lynn Verge.
