Cosmetic surgery among Canadians is growing in popularity. It is estimated that spending on plastic surgery increased 35% between 1992 and 1994, and that the number of men getting plastic surgery has doubled since 1976. The popularity of cosmetic surgery, despite its costs and health risks, is explored.

Article Abstract:
The International Whaling Commission (IWC) voted in May 1993 18 to 6 to keep the ban on international whaling through 1994. Japan and Norway had lobbied to have the ban lifted on certain species of whales. The ban went into effect in 1986, but allows some whales to be killed for research purposes.

Goodbye, Lech: an ex-Communist deposes Solidarity's Walesa

Aleksander Kwasniewski, a former Communist, won 51.3% of the vote in the Nov 1995, presidential election, defeating Walesa. Kwasniewski promised economic and political stability through his new Left Democratic Alliance. Walesa vowed to continue his opposition to Kwasniewski's policies.
