Analysts expect the Canadian residential real estate market to remain relatively flat in the near term, so home buyers should not expect housing prices to rise as fast the general rate of inflation in Canada through 1997. Low mortgage rates could make housing more affordable to first-time buyers.

An increasing number of Canadian investors are using discount brokers to execute their trading orders. The discount brokers do not offer advice, but charge as little as 1/5 what conventional brokers charge. Green Line is one of the biggest Canadian discounters, with 60%-70% of the market.
