Xerox picks president to be chief executive

Xerox Corp names Paul A. Allaire as chief executive officer. Allaire succeeds David T. Kearns, who remains as chairman. Allaire has been Xerox's president and head of the company's business products and systems organization since 1986. Kearns is reducing his involvement with the company in preparation of his 60th birthday in Aug 1990, in keeping with a Xerox policy for senior managers. In another change, Melvin Howard, vice chairman and head of Xerox's financial services operations plans an early retirement on May 1, 1990. Replacing him will be Stuart B. Ross, currently a senior vice president and chief financial officer.

Dataquest losing chief to Gartner, its rival
Article Abstract:
Gartner Group Inc announces that Manny A. Fernandez will assume the position of president and chief operating officer of the computer industry research firm. Fernandez will leave his current position as chief executive of Gartner's rival, Dataquest Inc. According to company founder Gideon I. Gartner, Fernandez will also assume the role of chief executive on Apr 1, 1991, with Gartner himself remaining on as company chairman. Fernandez cited the opportunity to work for a fast-growing, entrepreneurial company as the main reason for his move.
