Environmental protection and an equitable international order: ethics after the Earth Summit
Article Abstract:
The UN sponsored Earth Summit on environment added environmental protection and an equitable international economic order as new principles of international relations. The deliberations and discussions in the conference manifested different North-South interests because of the unequal distribution of wealth. The summit failed to draw concrete agreements over major issues but managed to shift the focus towards equitable international order and environment preservation. The principle of environmental protection is more fundamental, however, and transcends polarized positions.

Guiding principles of Jewish business ethics
Article Abstract:
The six most important guiding principles of classical Jewish business ethics are presented and applied to the May 14, 1988 school bus accident on Interstate 71 which killed 27 young people. It raised the complex issue of product liability against the bus' manufacturers Ford Motor Co and Sheller Globe Corp. The principles include understanding the legitimacy of business activity and profit, acknowledging the sanctity of human life and protecting consumers from harm. This case provides a glimpse into the unique attitudes and approaches of the Jewish tradition.
