Virtues for a postmodern world
Article Abstract:
Business ethics has the scope to incorporate some of the desirable features of postmodernism, such as de-centeredness and marginality. The postmodernist emphases on tolerance of diversity and rejection of grand conceptualizations hold relevance for contemporary business life. Modification of the Aristotelian model of virtue ethics theory is the best way to incorporate the positive aspects of postmodernism. Against the position of Ronald M. Green, the desirable features are not exclusive to postmodernism and are not necessarily part of current busienss ethics.

Virtue ethics and contractarianism: towards a reconciliation
Article Abstract:
The actual behaviour of business people, national and international, can be understood better by combining Aristotelian concept of virtue with the contractarian-utilitarian model('C-U' model). The notion of human rationality in 'C-U' model that rational behaviour seeks only profit-maximization is an inadequate explanation of business people's behaviour. According to Aristotle every person desires a happy life and virtues such as heroism, sportsmanship and sacrifice are key to happiness. Good life can only be judged, not calculated.

Sources of virtue: the market and the community
Article Abstract:
The Aristotelian concept of virtues identify happiness as the ultimate 'good' and the use of character excellence as a means of obtaining this good. Using this concept as a basis, Prof. Ian Maitland's article on market-generated virtues is erroneous. The consistency of traditional virtues, such as trustworthiness, fairness and sympathy, with the market does not imply that the said virtues are created by the market.
