Managing rapid urbanization in Africa: some aspects of policy
Article Abstract:
Policies designed to address rapid urban growth in Africa must make higher urban employment and wage levels their priority. It is clear that attention must focus on economic growth, which will act as a strong stimulus to job creation. Urban policies must also address issues such as education, housing and health care. Improving rural living standards will help to slow down rural-urban migration, but will not automatically stop the growth of Africa's urban centres.
