American-British aircraft competition in South China, 1926-1936
Article Abstract:
Between the years of 1926 and 1936 the Americans and British competed for the military aviation development programs asked for by South China. The author maintains the United States and Britain contributed to the development of military aviation in South China, with the United States dominating the military aviation market in Kwangtung and Britain dominating the same market in Kwangi.

Chongqing's most wanted: worker mobility and resistance in China's nationalist arsenals, 1937-1945
Article Abstract:
The social change and conflict in the Nationalist controlled territory, the wartime capital of Chongqing's working class is examined. An argument that the workers' grievances and discontent with the management encouraged mobility, which in turn became a real and perceived form of resistance, is presented.

The death of Tiaoxi (the 'Leaping Play'): ritual theatre in the northwest of China
Article Abstract:
The views of masked ritual theatre and the historical processes in China are presented in relation to the fieldwork in Heyang. The historical process of Tiaoxi, the 'Leaping Play' in the Heyang area is repeatedly reconstituted as a result of the natural and humanly-instigated disasters.
