From culinary other to mainstream American: meanings and uses of Southwestern cuisine

Article Abstract:

The popularity of Southwestern cuisine in the US and worldwide is surprising to those who remember when Anglos considered Mexican food unfit for human consumption. Southwestern cuisine is inexpensive, and it appeals to those who like to explore new foods. Some consider the 1990s version of the cuisine inferior to its authentic Native American and Mexican counterparts.

Flavors of memory: Jewish food as culinary tourism in Poland

Article Abstract:

Jewish tourists to Poland are welcome signs of prosperity and reminders of a violent past. For 600 years, Szeroka Street was Cracow's Jewish section, and is still the site of a synagogue, Jewish restaurants, coffee shops and museums. Jews in Eastern Europe were allowed to distill vodka, and some considered them responsible for alcoholism in the culture.

Culinary tourism: a folkloristic perspective on eating and otherness

Article Abstract:

A tourist is someone who visits a faraway place to experience a change, and this can be achieved through eating the food of foreign cultures. Culinary tourism utilizes the senses of vision, taste, smell, and touch in its experience of other cultures. The host and guest have their own perspectives on identity and the Other.
