Japan's moment in Indochina: Washington initiative ... Tokyo success
Article Abstract:
Japan is one of Southeast Asia's largest trading partners. In particular, Japanese companies are investing heavily in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. The successful entry of Japanese companies in these countries can largely be attributed to policies followed by the Japanese government during and after the Vietnam War. However, these countries are likely to opposed a bigger political role for Japan in Indochina.

Recent Japanese economic diplomacy in China: political alignment in a changing world order
Article Abstract:
Trade between Japan and China has increased due to Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA) policy toward China, which provides the capital for the economic modernization of China. Since the trade relations between the US and Japan have deteriorated over the years, Japan is turning to Asian markets. It is important for Japan to have friendly ties with China for a smooth economic relationship.

Article Abstract:
There are significant policy implications for the U.S., Japan, and other Asian nations regarding the situation in the South China Sea. This area is rich in oil and natural gas reserves. A long-term solution to the problem can be brought by the U.S.-Japan security alliance, operating in conjunction with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
