Capital budgeting is a constant concern of corporate management. Regarding the purchasing department, capital appropriations are not always consistent with the payback potential. Purchasing department equipment requests are often justified but turned down. The difficulty may lie with the request itself. It may be vague, lack credibility and fail to inspire confidence. An unsuccessful request for computers made by a purchasing director is described.
