The birth of Cajun poetry: an analysis of 'Cris sur le bayou: naissance d'une poesie acadienne en Louisiane.'
Article Abstract:
The renaissance of Cajun and Creole culture in Acadiana differs from other American cultural revivals in its looking to the French language as a way of preserving the culture. Until the publication of 'Cris sur le bayou: naissance d'une poesie acadienne en Louisiane' Cajun and Creole literature was mainly oral and the oral tradition continues as a vital way of bonding the generations to each other. Cultural assimilation is the theme of many poems in 'Cris sur le bayou' and is an aggressive act because it entails the replacement of Cajun French with English.

Popular derivation and linguistic inquiry: les javanais
Article Abstract:
Javanais, or the creation of linguistic or slang neologisms by native speakers of French, happens spontaneously as long as the speakers are aware of the rules of formation. Research on javanais has extended to include the morphological processes with scholars such as Natalie Lefkowitz, Marc Plenat and Vivienne Mela. Javanais does have morphological differences from standard, spoken French and perhaps linguists err in expecting of javanais the same homogeneity since one of its aims is to sound markedly different from standard language.
