The socioeconomic development levels of the people of Amazonian Brazil - 1970 and 1980
Article Abstract:
The socioeconomic development of Brazil's Legal Amazonia improved during large-scale investment operations by government and private companies from 1970 to 1980. Brazil's Legal Amazonia is 5.2 million sg. m. and composes 30% of Brazil's total land area with a population of 15 to 16 million in 1991. The region was characterized by heavy economic activity during the 1970s and 1980s. High levels of socioeconomic development have negative effects on anomic behavior.

Agricultural intensification and poverty reduction in Latin America's risk-prone areas: opportunities and challenges
Article Abstract:
An analysis of agricultural policy in Latin America countries reveals that countries are faced with social issues as well as environmental and technological problems. Agricultural policies often do not meet their goals of poverty alleviation because of the interplay of demographic issues and lack of technology that increases the pressure on the environment and yields results that are worse than with what they began with.
