It is not possible to travel very cheaply to Ljubljana, Slovenia, as this is not a well-known tourist destination. However, it is well worth visiting this city, which has a well-developed cafe society and attractive weather. Hotels can be more expensive than westerners anticipate, but it is possible to stay cheaply in a guest house. Attractions include Plecnik's University Library, Vodnik square, the cathedral and the Slovenian Philharmonic building.

Mardi Gras is a key event in the lives of residents of Binche, Belgium. The main event of this Mardi Gras involves onlookers being pelted with blood oranges by large numbers of men dressed in padded suits and feather headdresses. The town prepares for Mardi Gras all year, and many parties are held in the run-up to the main celebration. It is regarded as a great honour to be selected to be one of the men permitted to dress up.
