Composing in reel time
Article Abstract:
The BBC2 series 'Sound on Film,' which is to be relaunched shortly, will look at the relationship between music and film. In particular, it will attempt to re-establish the parity between film-makers and composers which existed in the early days of the cinema. Nowadays, composers tend to be very much a minor player in producing a film, and most tend to simply bow to the producer's wishes. Peter Maniura, producer of the BBC2 series, is determined to give composers a more significant role and to make the results accessible to everyone.

An intellectual Eden, a symphony of windows
Article Abstract:
The Cite de la Musique in Paris, France, has a very unusual architectural style. It has almost no straight lines, and its windows resemble portholes. There are many visual musical jokes, and the auditorium is an extremely flexible space. The building is attracting many highly respected international performers, as well as large audiences. The development also includes the Conservatoire in residence and a Musee de la Musique.
