Endowments may not be dead yet

Article Abstract:

Endowment mortgages were a suitable option for many people in the UK in the late 1980s, when a tax break on premiums, high interest rates, MIRAS tax relief and higher dividends balanced out the impact of costly, front-end loaded policies. However, this is no longer the case. Endowments have received much negative publicity, and now new endowment mortgages only account for a third of the total. It is not advisable to surrender an endowment, as this always brings losses. Options for ensuring that the endowment will pay off the loan at the end of the policy include setting up a low-cost investment Individual Savings Account.

It makes sense to insure your pet

Article Abstract:

Pet Plan and Pet Protect have traditionally dominated the UK market for pet insurance. However, new operators have begun to enter the sector, leading to a significant reduction in premiums and making pet insurance available to many people who could not previously afford it. However, pet owners should remember that a cheap insurance policy will not necessarily offer the level of cover they require.
