Some of the world's leading casinos have seen multi-millionaires such as Australian Kerry Packer win vast sums of money in a very short time. They are still prepared to allow extremely wealthy people to play, as they know that they will benefit financially in the long-term. However, a very large win by one of these players can cause considerable short-term problems. Casinos are still reporting record profit levels, but they view the arrival of multi-millionaires with some nervousness.

Gambling by degrees

Article Abstract:

Gambling has traditionally had a negative reputation, with casino staff operating mainly by instinct. However, there is now a shift in the UK towards formal training for casino staff. The casino industry has established a gambling studies course at the University of Salford, England, in an effort to produce a higher grade of managers. This course has also allowed casino staff to meet staff from other leading casino companies.
