Gay ex-servicemen fight MoD over dismissals
Article Abstract:
Gay servicemen believe that the MoD goes to considerable lengths to investigate the private lives of servicemen who are suspected of being gay. Recent publicity about the cases of Lieutenant Commander Duncan Lustig-Prean and Royal Air Force sergeant Graeme Grady has highlighted the way in which the MoD seems determined to rid the armed forces of gay men and women. These two men report that they were subject to extensive interrogation, and were dismissed despite being popular with colleagues.

Local airports fight sell-off
Article Abstract:
The UK government plans to encourage local authorities to sell 25 regional airports to make them more profitable and efficient. Councils own all the shares in the independent companies which run the 15 biggest. The Chancellor permits councils to spend 100% of the capital receipts if sold before the end of 1993, and forbids airports to borrow for expansion. Manchester is big enough to finance development from its profits. Feasibility studies on smaller airports advise against selling.
