Netscape ups the ante in the browser war

Article Abstract:

Netscape Communications Corp has announced that the source code for version 5.0 of Netscape Communicator, its Web browser, is no longer a trade secret. The company feels that an open source code development approach will bring a better product, and also believes that releasing the source code will encourage developers to use Netscape technology in their own products. The company has not yet announced a release date for the new 5.0 browser, but will continue to produce and release improvements to the version 4.x browser while Netscape 5.0 is under development.

Woman on the cutting edge of the Web

Article Abstract:

The Web is not an isolationist medium, according to artist Auriea Harvey, who has won many awards for her Web site, entropy8. When she began using the Web, she had to learn to think in non-static, non-linear terms. She believes that the Web's main function is to bring together people with common interests from differing backgrounds. She has a purely visual arts background, and has always favoured images over text.
