Arts administrator Peter Diamand survived a concentration camp in the Netherlands during the second world war, and after this time became involved in arts administration in the Netherlands. He became most well known for directing the Edinburgh Festival between 1965 and 1978. He inspired love and loyalty in his close acquaintances, even though he was rather unforthcoming in public. He was keen to encourage gifted young musicians, and was also prominent in promoting the work of avant-garde composers.

A writer had an attraction towards mystical and esoteric doctrines that propose the unknowingness of the supreme being, the ineffability of the experience of God presence and the ambiguity of the human condition. He believed in the dark night of the soul, awe was his religion, and mystery the church, he included equally the mysteries of consciousness and the torments of conscience.
