The golden age of dross
Article Abstract:
There has been a clear trend in summer 1999 towards films that have been condemned by critics and cinema-goers still making significant sums of money. In the case of 'Wild Wild West,' this can be explained by the popularity of actor Will Smith. However, this trend has also been seen with 'The Haunting' and 'Inspector Gadget,' neither of which have very well-known actors. The reason why some films are doing well despite the disapproval of critics and audiences is probably connected with marketing.
