Age effects on reflex and postural responses to propriomuscular inputs generated by tendon vibration
Article Abstract:
The impact of aging on sensorimotor levels of propriomuscular function was analyzed by measuring reflex and postural responses in young and elderly subjects. The results showed that reflex responses to vibration of the biceps and triceps brachii and deep reflexes of the lower limbs were not dependent on age. However, the intensity of postural responses to the same vibratory stimulation applied to the soleus and the tibialis anterior muscles decreased both with age and when the use of vision was possible.

Survival estimates and sample size: what can we conclude?
Article Abstract:
Efforts to comprehend the aging process typically involve life-span measurements which are then used to construct survival curves from which model parameters are estimated. The magnitude of parameter differences forms the basis of conclusions regarding the underlying biological processes. It is shown that sample size and sample fluctuation on the parameter estimates determine if the conclusion is meaningful.
