Comparison of routine glove use and contact-isolation precautions to prevent transmission of multidrug-resistant bacteria in a long-term care facility
Article Abstract:
A study to compare routine glove use by healthcare workers for all residents, without use of contact-isolation precautions, with contact-isolations precautions for the care of residents who had vancomycin-resistant enterococci or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolated from a clinical culture is presented. It was found that residents in a routine-glove-use section of a skilled-care unit in a long-term care facilities (LTCF) had a similar frequency of acquisition of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria as residents in a contact-isolation precautions section.

Colonization of skilled-care facility residents with antimicrobial-resistant pathogens
Article Abstract:
This article investigates the prevalence of antimicrobial-resistant pathogen colonization in a sample of residential patients in a skilled-care hospital unit. Findings indicate that almost half of the patients were colonized with at least one pathogen while over a quarter of the patients were co-colonized by at least two pathogens.
