Where is the vision for fall prevention?
Article Abstract:
This article examines the relationship between visual functioning and accidental falls among the elderly. Findings indicate that the severity of visual impairments is directly associated with the risk of falling and that monitoring of visual function in geriatric patients needs to be incorporated into fall prevention efforts.

Geriatric syndromes as outcome measures of hospital care: can administrative data be used?
Article Abstract:
A study has been carried out to see how often hospital administrative databases record occurrence of two common geriatric syndromes. Geriatric syndromes might be used as outcome measures of hospital care and perhaps administrative data could be used in measuring. Presence of incontinence or a pressure ulcer was recorded at admission to a nursing home and hospital discharge diagnoses were looked at to see wether the conditions had been recorded. It was found that occurrence of incontinence and pressure ulcers cannot be found from hopital administrative databases. They shoud not be used as outcomes for measuring quality of care for those hospitalized.
