Medical cost for disability: a longitudinal observation of National Health Insurance beneficiaries in Japan
Article Abstract:
Caring for disabled patients in Japan requires significant financial and medical resources. Recipients of national health insurance who had poor physical function required three to four times the resources of their healthy counterparts. Nursing homes and care giving expenses also add to the economic burden. Preventive health services should be emphasized.
