Sleep compression and sleep education for older insomniacs: self-help versus therapist guidance
Article Abstract:
A study of the utility of treatment procedures for 100 geriatric, insomniacs and noninsomniacs revealed therapist guidance in tandem with a self-help strategy as an effective method of mitigating sleeplessness in the subjects. This strategy proved versatile in improving treatment outcome for sleep latency, wake time post-sleep onset and overall sleep satisfaction.

Objective sleep measures and subjective sleep satisfaction: how do older adults with insomnia define a good night's sleep?
Article Abstract:
Depth of sleep and sleep latency were found to be the best determinants of subjective sleep satisfaction. This was the main finding in a study of the relationship between objective sleep measures and subjective sleep satisfaction with 47 older adults suffering from primary insomnia as respondents. Results also revealed that sleep variables such as sleep efficiency and wake time after sleep onset did not predict satisfaction on a particular night, but relative improvement from the first night to the next did.
