Ecology and sustainability
Article Abstract:
The importance of ecology of human settlements lies in how it affects the quality of the surrounding air, soil, water, vegetation and the lifestyles of people. The ecological aspects of human settlements can be studied by observing how changes in society affect the earth's ecosystem and by noting the relationship between the use of resources and the well-being of people. For example, the population of Rajasthan in India is increasing so fast such that pressure is being exerted on the surrounding areas. The land continuously deteriorates while the supply of fuel, food and water is no longer enough for its people.

Assessing the state of sustainability in British Columbia's Southern Interior Ecoprovince
Article Abstract:
People living in British Columbia's Southern Interior Ecoprovince have a high quality of life despite the existence of several environmental challenges. For the next 20 years, the preservation of culture, traditions and natural heritage of the region seems to be not seriously threatened by any specific problem that is controllable by the region. Study shows that the stress on the region's ecosystems has risen in the 1990s due mainly to land restructuring as well as human and vehicle populations.
