From Decocity towards Ecocity
Article Abstract:
The move from Decocity to Ecocity will include a change in the attitudes and mentalities towards daily living by every individual. The philosophy, which is being practised in the design of Japanese nursing homes, involves a change from a life style centered on material luxury to frugality. The idea of treating humankind as an integral part of the universe, coupled with a humble approach towards the exploitation of the natural world, is the basic principle behind the movement.

Dimensions of the urban climate of Athens
Article Abstract:
Monitoring the environment of a city such as Athens, Greece, results in a better understanding of the processes behind the phenomenon of urban climate. A study of urban canyons within the city reveals the importance of the interaction between energy balance and the urban fabric, an aspect that should be incorporated in the design of future cities. The data of the monitoring process can also be applied to mathematical models used in atmospheric research.

Metropolitan seafront and urban islands
Article Abstract:
Post-industrial metropolitan development is pointing towards renewed interest in the exploitation of coastal islands and gulf areas. The trend, which has been observed in such areas as Japan, North America and Europe, has led to such activities as absorption of islets and isles and tunneling and bridging of straits. The development has also resulted in an increasing awareness of the detrimental effects of water pollution on these prime assets.
