Egypt's 1982 planning law: time for an update?

Article Abstract:

Egypt's original comprehensive urban planning was passed in 1982. This law was passed to address the turbulence which resulted from the rapid changes in laws cause by their annulment just after their enactment. The 1982 law was a comprehensive legislation that dealt the with physical, administrative and financial factors involved in planning. A number of recommendations which would refine and strengthen the law is presented. Some of the recommendations are directed towards the role of structural plans, semantical problems concerning planning terms and a proposed information hotline.

Towards a sustainable management of regional seas: the Mediterranean islands

Article Abstract:

A demographic study has been made on the impact of human settlements in certain Mediterranean islands, namely Baleari, Sicilian and Maltese archipelagoes and Corsica, Sardinia, Crete and Cyrus islands. These have exhibited a highly irregular distribution of population, New political and economic factors have factors have managed to change the landscape of some of these islands which have a positive migratory balance. If properly maintained, island residents will be able to achieve sustainable development through increased tourism and environmental protection.
