HIV/AIDS and people of color

Article Abstract:

There were an estimated 106,240 African-Americans living with AIDs in 1997, compared with 45,928 in 1992, and HIV is now the main cause of death amongst African-American males and African-American females aged 25-44. 52,537 Latinos were estimated to be living with AIDS in 1997 and 2,100 Asian/Pacific Islanders were estimated to be living with AIDS. Health care providers and educators need to develop a greater understanding of these groups and their cultural values if they are to provide better services related to HIV/AIDs prevention.
