Mediation in the Dutch science system
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to characterize the Dutch science system and use it as a case to determine the general properties of modern research systems. The country experienced transition from problem-solving and mission-oriented projects to strategic research initiatives. Directions for research was determined by the Advisory Councils on Research which were established under the West Sectorraden of 1987. In addition, foreign activities were carried out by the Ministry of Education of Sciences.

Why science is endogenous: a debate with Paul David (and Ben Martin, Paul Romer, Chris Freeman, Luc Soete and Keith Pavitt)
Article Abstract:
Paul David's review of a book entitled 'Economic Laws of Scientific Research' proved to be unsubstantiated. With regards to the title, David's use of the word 'calypso' is offending and illustrates the reviewer's racist stand. With regards to generic principles, David's claim that book was unable to produce generic principles for science managers is insignificant since it was written mainly to justify government funding of science.
