The decision to 'bid for business': municipal behavior in granting property tax abatements
Article Abstract:
The timing of local economic development incentive offers is studied. Duration models of the time to local adoption of the manufacturing property tax abatement program of the municipal government is estimated. Data gathered from 112 municipalities in Detroit from 1974-1992 was used to study the effects of municipal characteristics, incentive prevalence measures and fiscal stress indicators on the duration of non-abatement regimes.

Property tax competition in a repeated game
Article Abstract:
Ananalysis of property tax competition in a repeated game setting is presented. Earlier models of tax competition were basically focused on competition's effects on public finance. This earlier basis concluded with efficient quantities of the good and zero optimal tax rates. Results show that property tax competition generates negative tax rates when a repeated game setting is established.

Restricting preferential tax regimes to avoid harmful tax competition
Article Abstract:
A study on preferential tax regimes and its influence on tax competition, is presented. It is assumed that moderate restrictions of preferential tax regimes always increase equilibrium revenues.
