Toward a Monistic Theory of Science: the "Strong Programme" reconsidered

Article Abstract:

The 'Strong Programme' account of scientific knowledge is reconsidered from a fresh perspective, in terms of argument of it's monistic intent being given insufficient attention, thus aiming to unify considerations of instrumental adequacy and social interests in explanations of the development of scientific knowledge. It is suggested that the best alternative is not a dualistic framework but a more adequate monistic approach.

Postscript - the possibility of a post-Kantian sociology

Article Abstract:

The author argues that Immanuel Kant, in the 'Critique of Pure Reason,' deliberately avoided sociology for architectonic and structural reasons. The possibility that Kant may have considered a sociological edition of the Critique prior to his death is discussed.

Tradition and cognitive science Oakeshott's undoing of the Kantian mind

Article Abstract:

Understanding of Oakeshott's famous depiction of practice in relation to contemporary cognitive science is discussed. It is suggested that Oakeshott meant to contrast practices to an alternative "Kantian" model of a shared tacit mental frame or set of rules.
