Unwrinkling the carpet of meaning: Stephen Schiffer, The Things We Mean

Article Abstract:

A study reviewing critically Stephen Schiffer's "The Things We Mean" whereby it discusses some novel contributions to the philosophy of meaning, especially his proposal for the ratification of certain abstract entities and the application of his argument to the philosophical problem of vagueness in natural language is illustrated. The work introduces a new take on vagueness and contains a great number of ingenious moves offered in defense of the face-value theory.
